Terms & Conditions

These Terms & Conditions (“Terms”) govern your use of Settle In, a peer-to-peer furniture package marketplace operating in Helsinki, Finland. By creating an account or using the platform, you agree to be bound by these Terms.

1. Definitions

  • “Platform” – the Settle In website at settlein.fi
  • “User” – any individual creating an account
  • “Buyer” – user reserving or purchasing furniture packages
  • “Seller” – user listing and selling furniture packages
  • “Reservation Fee” – refundable fee paid by Buyers to reserve a package
  • “Package Price” – amount paid directly to Seller
  • “Settle In”, “We”, “Us” – the service operator

2. Nature of the Platform (Marketplace Disclaimer)

Settle In is not a furniture seller.
We provide a platform that connects Buyers and Sellers.

  • Buyers pay Sellers directly.
  • Settle In collects only the Reservation Fee.
  • Settle In is not a party to the package sale.
  • Sellers are responsible for item condition, delivery, and accuracy.
  • Buyers are responsible for inspecting items before buying.

3. User Accounts

To use the platform, you must:

  • Be at least 13 years old
  • Provide accurate information
  • Not use false identities
  • Keep login credentials secure
  • Not create multiple fraudulent accounts

We may suspend accounts for violations.

4. Seller Agreement

Sellers on Settle In agree to:

  • Provide accurate descriptions and photos
  • Include all required minimum items for each package category
  • Ensure listed items are usable and safe
  • Allow Buyers to inspect items
  • Accept returns upon inspection rejection
  • Handle Seller-Assisted Delivery at their own cost
  • Not list prohibited items or misinformation

5. Buyer Protection Terms

Buyers are protected through:

  • Reservation Fee refunds if item is rejected and refund requested within 7 days of inspection
  • In-app chat history used for dispute verification
  • Inspection before payment
  • Right to reject if items do not match description or included items

Buyers must:

  • Use the in-app chat for all communication
  • Inspect packages in person or at delivery
  • Request reservation fee refund within 7 days of inspection/delivery

6. Payment Terms (Booking Fee)

  • Reservation Fee is paid to Settle In through Stripe
  • Reservation Fee is held until Buyer confirms or rejects the package
  • Settle In refunds reservation fees for eligible claims
  • Settle In never handles the package price

7. Refund Policy

Booking Fee Refunds

Refunds are granted when:

  • Buyer inspects the package
  • Rejects it due to missing items or poor condition
  • Requests refund within 7 days

Non-Refundable Reservation Fees

Reservation Fees are not refunded if:

  • Buyer fails to show up
  • Buyer accepts and pays seller
  • Buyer misses the 7-day claim window
  • Buyer’s claim is not valid based on chat or evidence

Package Price

Settle In does not refund any package price — this is a peer-to-peer payment.

8. Delivery Terms

Buyer-Arranged Pickup

  • Buyer inspects items
  • Buyer pays Seller directly
  • Buyer arranges transportation

Seller-Assisted Delivery

  • Seller delivers within Helsinki
  • Buyer inspects upon delivery
  • If rejected, Seller returns items at their own cost

9. Prohibited Conduct

Users must not:

  • Abuse or threaten others
  • Attempt fraud
  • Circumvent the platform
  • Engage in scams
  • Post misleading listings
  • Use false identities
  • Share harmful content

10. Limitation of Liability

Settle In is not responsible for:

  • Item quality
  • Delivery issues
  • Seller behavior
  • Buyer behavior
  • Payment issues between Users
  • Damages arising from peer-to-peer transactions

Our liability is limited to the amount of the Reservation Fee paid.

11. Dispute Resolution

Settle In reviews disputes using:

  • In-app chat
  • Photos
  • Evidence from Buyer/Seller

Settle In’s decision regarding reservation Fee refunds is final.

12. Termination

We may suspend or terminate accounts that:

  • Violate these Terms
  • Attempt fraud
  • Abuse the platform
  • Pose security risks

13. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of Finland and applicable EU regulations.

14. Updates to the Terms

We may update these Terms at any time. Changes take effect upon posting on the website.
